To Abort or Not to Abort

Tag:, , , ,

A recent article in the Catholic Exchange on the pro-life viewpoints of an atheistic blogger piqued my interest to write this. I shall take up on certain points that were raised in the interview.

1. Planned Parenthood insists that when life begins is a religious one which varies from woman to woman.

Does it really matter when life starts when we know that the “thing” the woman is carrying is alive? Take a cat that’s crossing the road in front of our vehicle. Do we analyze when it’s life started before we decide to avoid hitting it? As far as we know, it is alive and we want to preserve its life.

Do any of us, including Planned Parenthood doubt that a pregnant lioness is carrying fetuses that are alive? Definitely not. We know that the fetuses are alive and we don’t try to philosophize when life for the fetuses started. No wildlife expert agonizes over this issue before deciding to extend help, if any.

Why do people have to debate over this issue? The “thing” a pregnant woman is carrying is alive for sure. Simple philosophy will determine that what the woman is carrying has to be composed of living tissues or dead ones. It has to be living tissue or dead tissue. If it is made up of dead tissues, it would be expelled from the womb in a spontaneous abortion or what we usually call a miscarriage. One living amoeba cell makes up a living amoeba animal. Billions of living human cells make up a human being regardless of its size or whether it’s inside the womb or outside. Thus if it’s a set of living cells inside a woman’s womb it must be a living “thing”. So it is a living “thing” that Planned Parenthood and abortion proponents are enthusiastically working for.

The question of when life began doesn’t enter the picture. Actually if we wish to handle this question, it’s very scientifically handled. Science accepts that only living cells multiply or fuse to create more living cells. In the animal kingdom, when a living sperm and a living ovum fuse they create a living cell that divides and divides and divides and divides into more living cells. So when did life start for that tiny animal? Scientifically when the living ovum was fertilized by the living sperm. So we can apply this scientific law to humans as well because we belong to the animal kingdom too.
2. The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice promotes abortion because the Bible doesn’t explicitly prohibit it.

I’m not sure who makes up this group, but the are hoodwinking themselves, just as Lucifer thinks that he was God’s greatest creation and shouldn’t serve humankind. Right from Genesis, we have God hounding Cain for killing Abel.
Moreover one of the Ten Commandments explicitly says that “Thou Shalt not Kill”. Of course the Bible doesn’t specifically state what methods are acceptable in killing a human being, simply because we are not to kill, period! The Bible doesn’t say that we should not use a vehicle to kill a person, so is it excusable by God because He didn’t mention it? I don’t even need to answer this.

We can see that all the people who consider themselves pro-abortion or euphemistically pro-choice refuse to view this rationally or even scientifically. We should pray for them and especially for the clergy who make up the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
