Stem-cell Research Exists in US
President Bush has been damned by liberals for failing to fund stem-cell research.
These are misguided comments who either are unaware or refuse to accept that stem cells are not just embryonic in origin. Stem cell can be derived from many sources, e.g., umbilical, bone marrow, etc. Now UCLA scientists have discovered that skin cells can be reverted into stem cells. The funding for this came from the Bush Administration.
Stem cells, whatever their origin, develop into other specialized cells, osteocytes, lymphocytes, and other types, eventually becoming bone, liver, skin and other organs.
Recall that embryonic stem cell research hasn’t delivered a single application yet, but non-embryonic stem cell research in several countries have already been used to treat people of several diseases or conditions.
