New Childhood Vaccine

Tag:, ,

A US FDA committee has endorsed a new 5-in-1 paediatric vaccine that protects infants and toddlers against 5 diseases, i.e., polio, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and haemophilus influenzae type B.

The brand name of the vaccine is Pentacel and has been available in Canada for more than 15 years now. With this endorsement from the committee, the FDA drug approval board is expected to grant a license, for Pentacel sales, in Spring or Summer. This news from a secular viewpoint is good news as for the first time an American child doesn’t need to endure numerous injections but just one jab.

However, from a Catholic perspective, this news ought to be welcomed with mixed feelings. The polio component of Pentacel is derived from MRC5 cells. These cells were originally obtained from aborted babies! So true Catholic parents will have to confront this dilemma - using a vaccine from murdered children to save living children.

There is good news too, provided the pro-life group is willing to petition Sanofi Pasteur to submit another version of this vaccine for approval in the US. This vaccine, which is also a 5-in-1, has its polio component created from monkey cells, thus no moral issues involved. This vaccine, Pediacel, was introduced worldwide 3 years ago is being used in the UK, Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore and soon several more.
