Children are Blessings from God
Not many of us including Catholics, see children as gifts from God. We may tend to see them as expenses rather than blessings from God. We have been inculcated to provide children with all kinds of things we think are necessities - education at Harvard or Yale, car, latest cell phones models, new Nike shoes.
A good friend of mine, Jeremy, helped me reconsider my outlook towards development of children. His poignant statement several months ago was that most of us don’t have our personal goal of striving to reach heaven. When heaven is our objective many previous priorities are relegated and the Christian priority of becoming a saint takes precedence. My wife and I have pondered this and now tend to evaluate if earthly requirements assist or impede our and our children’s goal of sainthood.
