The Womb & The Tomb

Tag:, , , , ,

Last night I watched Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ” together with my wife. As usual it was an emotional two hours. Watching the movie always makes it easier to appreciate and picture the events of Holy Thursday and Good Friday that we read about in the Gospels.

After the movie, I was contemplating about Mother Mary and for some reason I thought about the tomb of Joseph of Arimathaea that Jesus was laid in and Mother Mary’s womb that he developed in. Here are some intriguing thoughts.

1. Both the womb and the tomb held Jesus as the first occupant, hence both were in pristine condition for God’s occupancy.

2. As Catholics we believe that no one else developed in Mother Mary’s womb and I believe no one else was laid in Joseph of Arimathaea’s tomb after Jesus.

3. Jesus lay in the tomb for 3 days and in Mary’s womb for ninety 3-day periods.

4. Both the womb and the tomb belonged to rich individuals - Joseph of Arimathaea was economically rich whereas Mother Mary was rich with God’s graces.

5. Both the womb and the tomb were given as selfless acts of love to and for God, by the respective owners.

6. Jesus as King and Priest was nurtured in the royal womb of Mary and laid to rest in the priestly tomb of the Levite, Joseph of Arimathaea.

7. Joseph, husband of Mary, delivered Jesus from the womb and Joseph, of Arimathaea, delivered Jesus to the tomb.

8. Jesus’ delivery from the womb was effortless (without labor pangs) and Jesus’ delivery from the tomb was equally effortless (no effort in rolling away the stone).

We await in anticipation the commemoration of our Lord’s resurrection.

The bidding is already more than $200,000! Personally, I think this is a really fun and creative way to raise
money. The auction goes until April 14th if you and your readers want to check it out.
