Medugorje Apparitions
It’s been more than 2 decades since the apparent initial apparitions of our Lady at Medugorje. Yet after twenty years there is still no official verdict from the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. On this feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I wish to post this excerpt that a friend sent me recently.
Although my friend claims that the site of the apparition of the Blessed Lady at Medugorje has the second highest pilgrimage by priests and religious, I’m awaiting the Magisterium’s decision on whether this is a sanctioned pilgrimage site and therefore worthy of Catholic belief. So I post this article below as a neutral party not yet committed to the purported messages from Our Mother. Maybe it will help some of you to increase your faithfulness to our Lord. As Mother Mary is known to do - She shows us the way to Her Son always.
In his brilliant book Heaven Wants to Be Heard, the British scholar Dudley Plunkett lists the following spiritual appeals of the Medjugorje messages as Heaven’s message to the modern world:
• Attend daily Mass (March 30, 1984).
• Offer three hours of prayer a day (July 4, 1983).
• Pray three Rosaries each day (August 14, 1984) as well as seven Paters, Aves, and Glorias for peace.
• Go to monthly confession (August 6, 1982).
• Give time for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (March 15, 1984).
• Read the Scriptures daily (October 18, 1994).
• Pray before the Cross (September 12, 1985).
• Observe family prayer (October 20, 1983).
• Make an act of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (October 25, 1988).
• Undertake pilgrimages, penance, sacrifices, and fast on bread and water twice a week (June 27, 1981).
