Founders return to drive companies
The latest issue of Fortune Magazine has an article on Dell, the company and the man. The piece generally discusses the return of Michael Dell as CEO to turn around the faltering fortunes of his company after severing the former CEO. The article went on to describe several other companies who have had their founders return as CEOs after they had retired, as only they could rescue their companies from failure or stagnation.
I juxtaposed this against the Catholic Church. Jesus Christ founded Christianity and left it to be managed, or shepherded by mere mortals. And He never came back physically to run the show even when many of when his Vicars were of notorious character and scandalized the organization.
Why did He not come back despite the failures of his Vicars and stumbles of His organization? Very simply He trusted that the Holy Spirit would always ensure that any failure will be an opportunity to progress further. Furthermore, whatever failures that would emerge, it would not be able to destroy the Church as He had promised. That is precisely what has happened to the Catholic Church. It has always been progressing even when humanity has been regressing towards self-annihilation. It is the only beacon for the world when all other organizations flex with the times. A lighthouse is meant to be grounded and sending out its light consistently with the same intensity as opposed to being mobile and sending out light of different colors inconsistently.
Of course Jesus will return one day but not to run His organization but to fulfill the end of times, i.e., the ultimate objective of His organization.
Hopefully this analysis will give the skeptics of Catholicism something to reflect on and be drawn to reason out the success of the Catholic Church, which the secular world believes has been left behind in the past.
