From Catholic to Protestant
Last week I was informed by my mother that a couple more of my cousins had left the Catholic Church and had become members of Protestant congregations. This was very saddening news. Over the last couple of years, several of my cousins have left the Church.
Why do these people leave the Church? None of my cousins were deadwood Catholics. Here are examples indicating the state of faith of some cousins before switching.
1. Cousin A was married in the Catholic church to a Catholic man. After a few years the husband became a Protestant and was insisting that his wife join him. She resisted for several years and just some months ago joined him.
2. Cousin B was a devout Catholic who revered the Divine Mercy and had a picture framed up in her restaurant. She even built a grotto for Our Lady on her lawn. She too jumped ship some months ago and was intending to destroy the grotto but retain the Divine Mercy picture.
3. Cousin C was an equally devout man as Cousin B and was the Church organist for many years. He once told his brother that we should never leave the Church because it’s the True Church. He moved to Canada and eventually became a Protestant.
Just from these 3 examples, I’ve been perplexed and unable to find the answer to the mystery of why people switch camps. I posit that probably there is something that missing from the Catholic Church. What could be missing if as Cousin B and C, you adore the Blessed Sacrament and believe that Holy Communion is the Real Presence? What makes you change your mind that the body of Christ is just a metaphor?
Cousin A was probably a phlegmatic Catholic and I think that it’s better to be a passionate Protestant that a lukewarm Catholic, as seditious as it sounds.

Maybe I should present my cousins with these resources and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide them back to the Full Truth.
