Betrayal?

Tag:, ,

The organization that I work for is a very small set up with only 38 employees. We have been in existence as a Division of a larger company since 2000. Since inception the head of the Division has been the Vice-President of the Region - this was the result of a quirk at our head office in France. My role in the Division has been as the Head of Commercial Operations.

Effective January 1, 2007, a Country Head for the Division was appointed and I report to him directly and no more to the Regional Vice-President as in the past. My new boss has been well known to members of the Division as he comes from a sister company and several of my direct charges have been apparently jockeying for his attention.

Since 1/1/2007, I’ve been instituting changes to accommodate the new reporting structures and learning required by the Division. Last Monday it came to my utter shock that two of my immediate subordinates were upset with these changes and planned to protest to the Country Head without my knowledge. This news initiated a rage within me as I couldn’t believe that I had a potential mutiny on hand. I was scheming throughout the week on how I should confront these two subordinates (or insubordinates).

Every morning while driving to work I pray the rosary. On Friday while praying the rosary, a sudden distracting thought entered my mind - if Jesus could be betrayed by Judas, why should I be so unnerved by the two scheming colleagues? This epiphany brought on an immediate calming effect upon me and I decided not to confront these colleagues.

Later in the office, these 2 colleagues with some others came to discuss some issues and at the end they enquired if I would modify the instructions that had them vexed. I calmly explained to them once again the need for the policy involved and they accepted without a whimper.

I consider this a spiritual miracle manifested by the Lord at my darkest hour to show me that surrendering to His providence and accepting to carry the cross with Him is the correct way of witnessing as a worthy Christian. The lesson was also to do things in opposition to the accepted norm of the world and aligned to the truth of Christ.
