The Secret Lessons for Christians

Tag:, , , , ,

One principle of the Secret, also known as the Law of Attraction, is that we should attract the good and not the bad. Basically this means focus on the good and not the bad.

For Christians and for practitioners of many of other religions, we are taught to practice our religion by avoidance of negative behaviors. How many times have we heard:

  • do not sin
  • do not work on the Sabbath
  • do not commit adultery
  • do not practice contraception
  • avoid meat on Fridays of Lent or Fridays of the entire year

Christianity, like most other faiths, has more focus on the negatives rather than affirming the positives. According to the Law of Attraction, what we focus on expands. Any wonder why there is still a lot of bad or evil taking place?

I believe that Jesus understood this and summarized the Ten Commandments, that had more avoidance messages than affirmative ones, into two positive Commandments. Simply they are to:

  1. Love God with all your heart, mind and soul
  2. Love neighbor as much as ourselves.

Therefore we are told by Jesus that God the Father must consume us every moment of our life. Focusing on God, will automatically gravitate us towards goodness, because we believe God is good. If we were to focus on avoiding the Devil, that’s exactly were we will drifting towards - evil.

If we love ourselves, and based on the 2nd Commandment, can we neglect our neighbors? I believe that Jesus said this because we are all interconnected. There are some people who will cringe at this and accuse me of new-age thinking. This is the core Christian theology that teaches that we are made in the image of God.

If we are the image of God and God Himself is a communion, then so are we. We are interconnected by God Himself. Harming ourselves hurts the entire human population. That’s why the Catholic church teaches that sin is not a personal event but one with repercussions on the whole human race.

In the same way doing good affects the whole human race positively. This is also why the Church teaches that good deeds can be used for the salvation of those in purgatory as well as on Earth.
Harming someone else will have the harm (maybe in some other form) return to us. Hindus and Buddhists call this karma. Jesus warned St. Peter that those who live by the sword will die by the sword. Doing good will have us basking in goodness.

So I advocate that from today you focus on the positives rather than the negatives. Think Good and you will do Good. Good cannot beget bad. When you lead a life of goodness, you will be rich not just financially but emotionally and spiritually as well. A person who lead a life of bad intentions and actions cannot attain riches in all areas of their life. Impossible. It goes against the Law of Attraction, aka, The Law of Love. This is natural law and the Law of God.
