Love or Slavery
“Baby Come Back” - that’s one of Vanessa Hudgens recent songs.
I’ve listened to it many times over the radio and I suppose I never paid attention to the lyrics until yesterday. Not sure why, but yesterday the lyrics moved from the subliminal to the conscious mind and noticed one of the verses or part of it maybe.
This verse, “…I won’t let you free…”. I think she was lamenting about someone who she loved and jilted her and is imploring him to return and this time she won’t let him leave.
I was piqued. No wonder many people now are afraid to commit to relationships. Who would want to if it’s slavery. The verse in the song makes it like you are not free when you are in love. If you are free in a relationship why is there is a need to “not let you free”.
Strange but not amusing way to look at relationships. The Bible clearly speaks of love being kind and not being pompous or jealous. Only love (for want of a better word) that’s not based on respect can look at love as shackles to free itself from.
