Jesus is Big Now?

Tag:, , , ,

Every morning, the first thing I do is to login onto the Catholic Exchange website. I spend about an hour reading all the articles and news for the day. I find it a wonderful way to start my day by being updated on Catholic issues. I end the activity by reading the Bible readings for the day.

A few days ago my 5 year-old son, Jason, awoke early and sat next to me as I was going through the Catholic Exchange site. He saw an advertisement where a statue of Our Lady carrying Child Jesus was displayed. He commented (although it was more of a question) - Jesus is big now?

I took that as a teaching moment and in the process I learnt something too. I told him that Jesus is (was) a big man and he was (is) also a small child. Jesus being God was always a child and man even now. Wonder if it made any sense to him.

As I proclaimed this epiphany, I realized that this is what separates us Catholics from Protestants. Protestants cannot accept the Crucifix but only an empty cross because they say that Jesus is risen, so the empty cross. On the contrary, Catholics while professing Jesus’ resurrection, also accept that the sacrifice that Jesus made on that Good Friday is always being re-presented during every Mass worldwide to the Father. For Catholics, Jesus is always a child, always a man, always suffering, always joyful.
This is also the reason we Catholics have apparitions of Jesus as a fetus (with Our Lady of Guadalupe), an infant, toddler or adult.
