Do Demons Obey God?
The last verse of today’s Gospel reading, Mk. 3:12, has Jesus instructing some demons, he had evicted from some possessed people, to not publicize that He was the Son of God as they had rightfully professed.
This verse set me thinking - would these demons have obeyed Jesus’ instruction? It would have been ironic if they had obeyed, because disobedience was what got them expelled from Heaven in the first place. I suspect that by not denying His divinity, Jesus sent a message through these demons to their leader, Lucifer, that God was at his doorstep. This was the cue for Satan to set the clock for the appointment at Calvary. These demons too were responsible for the instigation of the Pharisees, Sadducees and the crowds to eventually turn against Jesus and crucify Him.
