Blood of Jesus on Jews

Tag:, , , , , ,

In Matthew 27:25, during the Passion of Jesus, we read that when Pilate wanted to exonerate himself of responsibility, the Jews accepted responsibility by declaring, “Let his blood be upon us and our children”.

Although this indicates that the Jews demanded Jesus be crucified, it has been abused by anti-Semites, like Adolf Hitler, to persecute them. Little do we realize that the Jews were merely representing all humankind when they made that statement. Whose sins did Jesus take upon himself on the cross, if not all humanity’s?

Secondly, although, the statement by the Jews sound like a curse, because it’s the Blood of Jesus that they wish upon themselves, it sounds more a request that Jesus’ Blood cover them as a protective veil. This is exactly what we Christians pray - that Jesus’ Sacred Blood cover us in protection against the forces of Evil.

Ironically, the Jews were praying that their Victim’s Blood protect them! Does Jesus’ Blood protect them although they willingly crucified Him? Of course, as Jesus asked His Father to forgive them because they knew what they were doing.
